Meet Brazilian couple have been married for 84 years

HUMAN INTERESTWORLD

Love has no expiry date, and Manoel Angelim Dino and Maria de Sousa Dino are living proof of that.

At 105 and 101 years old, the Brazilian couple has set a remarkable record—84 years and 77 days.

Making them the longest-married living couple (different sexes) in the world.

Their love story began in the 1930s when Manoel, born in 1919, met Maria, born in 1923, while working in agriculture.

However, their first meeting didn’t immediately spark romance.

It wasn’t until a chance encounter in 1940 that Manoel realized Maria was the one.

Determined not to let her slip away, he confessed his feelings and asked her out.

She said yes, but winning her heart wasn’t enough—he had to earn her family’s trust too.

Maria’s mother was initially against the relationship, so Manoel proved his commitment by building a home for their future.

With family approval, the couple wed in 1940 at the Chapel of Boa Ventura in Ceará, Brazil.

Their journey wasn’t easy, but their love carried them through.

Together, they worked tirelessly, cultivating rolled tobacco to support their growing family.

Their love blossomed into a legacy—13 children, 55 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Despite life’s challenges, they remained side by side, proving that true love endures through time.

Now in their golden years, their days are peaceful.

Manoel rests during the day but always joins Maria in the evening to listen to the rosary on the radio at 6 p.m., followed by a televised mass.

Secrets to a lasting marriage

So, what’s the secret to a lasting marriage?

According to Maria, the answer is simple—love.

It’s something no computer could ever calculate, yet it remains the most powerful force in the world.

Their incredible milestone was officially recognized by LongeviQuest, with the support of their family.

As of February 2025, they stand just a few years away from the longest marriage ever recorded—88 years and 349 days, held by David Jacob Hiller and Sarah Davy Hiller in the 19th century.
