United states Women’s Football team forward Megan Rapinoe has hanged her boots after making 203 appearances for the national team and scoring 63 goals.
The 38 year old has had a fruitful career filled with accolades including the World Cup trophy.
She helped that United states to lift the trophy twice.
She has won the Ballon D’or for her role in the 2019 Women’s World cup and she has also won the Golden ball ,the Golden boot and an Olympic medal.
The two time world cup winner played her last game in a friendly match with South Africa on Sunday which ended 2-0 in favor of the Americans.
“It has been such an honor to be able to wear this shirt, play with all these players and live out my childhood dream,” said Rapinoe
Even thought she officially marked the end of almost a two decade long career for the national women’s team ,she will play a couple of matches for her parent club OL Reigns.
In the friendly Trinity Rodman opened the score sheet put USA on the lead in the first half.
After which she quickly ran to Rapinoe in celebration.
Rapinoe on the other hand curved in a superb comer kick shot Emily Sonnett finding the back of the net heading past South Africa’s goal keeper Andile Dlamini.
she has been on the headline championing for equal pay and gender equality in the soccer in America.
She made headline’s in when she snubbed an invitation from former US president Donald Trump to visit the white house after the team won the world cup.
She becomes among only three players who have had a long career playing for the United States women team.
