“Those fighting Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza are fighting women in Kenya and across the world!” This is according to MP Peter Kaluma.
The Homa Bay Town MP says Meru County MCAs should respect Governor Mwangaza and support her to deliver to the people of Meru County.
“Those Meru men who believe women can’t lead should learn from the support Homa Bay men are giving Governor Gladys Wanga and accept the dawn of women leadership is here and embrace it!” Kaluma adds.
Governor Mwangaza staring at impeachment
Last week, Meru MCAs announced their intention to table a fresh motion to impeach Governor Mwangaza.
Led by Majority Leader Evans Mawira, the UDA Party MCAs said they were in a process of drafting and tabling a motion to impeach the governor.
The caucus insisted they intend to bring on board other Meru MCAs from other political parties to support them in removing the county boss.
According to them, they have given Governor Mwangaza enough time to address issues plaguing Meru County but things have not changed.
“It is not our agenda to see chaos, to see drama or shenanigans in the county so we have decided to withdraw the support within and outside the assembly that we had given the governor,” Mawira said.
Mawira added: “We have already appended our signatures from the 27 of us who form or comprise the Kenya Kwanza caucus in the county assembly in preparation for a fresh impeachment motion after the one that we had last year was thwarted in the senate.”
The MCAs said even after trying as much as possible to assist the governor by advising her, their advises had been landing on deaf ears.
Mwangaza impeached!
In December 2022, Governor Mwangaza was impeached after just 112 days in office.
All the MCAs present voted unanimously to impeach her on grounds of gross misconduct, abuse of office and gross violation of the Constitution and county laws.
She was, however, saved by senators who dismissed the charges against her, arguing that the allegations were not substantiated.
