Meru preachers hold prayers at Governor Kawira’s home amid looming impeachment

On Friday, October 6, 2023, Meru County preachers gathered for prayers at the residence of Governor Kawira Mwangaza amid rumors of her impending impeachment.

The group’s head, Kiogora Magambo, claimed in a statement released by the county executive on her social media, that the clergy was opposed to her impeachment and was promoting discussion.

“On matters of impeachment, the clergy is not for the impeachment of the governor and is urging MCAs to desist from bringing up such an impeachment motion should shelve the motion but embrace dialogue.

“We want to ask President Ruto to know that Meru is part of Kenya, and we voted for him and his deputy in big numbers, The County politicians’ call was not part of our opinion as we were not consulted,” Kiogora explained.

Additionally, the clergy urged the Meru County ward administrators to abandon the impeachment motion.

“The Meru County Gospel Ministers is asking county assembly to take a firm stand and not table an impeachment motion and never to be coerced to withdraw support from the governor.

“We know political parties are pushing our MCAs to withdraw support. We now call upon them to retract and make a good decision for a better Meru,” added Kiogora.

Kawira Mwangaza’s Advice to MCAs

Governor Kawira Mwangaza advised the MCAs to carefully review and make sure the grounds are justifiable before submitting such a motion, while implying that the action is a political witch hunt funded by her competitors.

“I heard the MCAs want to impeach the governor again. Our Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was given the task to unites us by the president, and for five months we have been working together.

“Two weeks ago, I hear there are new developments. I talked to several MCAs who said they are being coerced to push the impeachment motion,” the first-time governor added.
