Messi and Ronaldo Omitted from 2024 Ballon d’Or Shortlist

The race for the 2024 Ballon d’Or award became clearer on September 4, after the organisers released the nominee list for the various categories where multi-time winners Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were missing out.

The list was dominated by players who competed in the Euro 2024 earlier this year.

The revealed list contained 30 nominees in men’s and women’s categories set for the Ballon d’Or ceremony which is set to be held on October 28 at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

Apart from the male and female Ballon d’Or nominees, nominations were also revealed for various other awards.

Favourites Jude Bellingham, Rodri and Vinicius were included, while Spain’s rising star Lamine Yamal, who was among the 10 nominees for the Kopa Trophy (young player award), has also been named alongside several of his other Euro-winning compatriots.

In the women’s category, reigning Champions League winners Barcelona dominate with six nominees. Among them are last year’s winner Aitana Bonmati and two-time recipient Alexia Putellas, showcasing the club’s exceptional talent in women’s football.
