Migori: Body of missing catholic nun found floating in a sewer

A young trainee nun from Rongo Catholic Church, Migori who went missing on Thursday, October 24, 2024 has been found dead.

Her body was discovered in a sewer pit within the Rongo parish convent by a nun on her way to the farm.

Father Gabriel Atieno, vicar general of the Homa Bay diocese, confirmed the tragic news.

He said Yvonne Jirangwa, aged 23, was last seen on Thursday. When she could not be found, her fellow sisters reported her disappearance to the police.

After searching for days, her body was found on Sunday, October 27.

Father Atieno noted that Yvonne had been part of the Rongo parish for three years. She was well-known for her involvement in community work, and her loss is deeply felt by both the church and her family.

He added that the church is cooperating with police in establishing the cause of her tragic death.

At the same time, Rongo Sub-County Police Commander Salim Fundi said the police had been working to locate Yvonne since her disappearance was reported.

Her body has been taken to Rosewood Hospital mortuary for an autopsy as investigations continue.
