Migori County rejects resignation letters from employees with fake certificates, say they must face the law

Migori County officials in the middle of fake academic certificates scandal tried to find an easy way out by resigning, but the devolved unit’s government has rejected the resignation letters.

An audit found that 95 out of 2,700 employees faked their primary and secondary school certificates to secure jobs.

Out of the 95 people with fake certificates, over 25 tried to quit by handing in their resignation letters to leave their jobs smoothly.

During an interview, however, County Secretary Oscar Olima said appropriate action will be taken against officials found culpable in the scandal.

“Resignation is not an option for any of them; they have to go through disciplinary action as the law demands, and we have not accepted any resignation letters,” said Olima.

Olima revealed that employees with fake academic certificates had been struck from the county payroll.

“None of them is currently getting paid by the county. If we discover any justification, we may reinstate them after completing the full disciplinary process,” Olima added.

He further explained that the county’s actions are limited to dismissal; following that, official law enforcement agencies such as the DCI can take legal action against those implicated in the scandal.

Governor Ochilo Ayacko’s administration petitioned the Institute of Human Resources Management to conduct a payroll audit, leading to the discovery of 607 ghost workers.
