A woman in Migori County has been arrested for allegedly attacking her husband with hot water and a panga after learning that he was planning to marry a second wife. The shocking incident took place on Saturday night in Kadar-Posi village, Uriri sub-county, leaving the man with serious injuries.
According to North Kanyamkago area chief, Silvance Owiti, the victim, Evance Odhiambo, was attacked at around 9 p.m. by his wife, Emilly Otieno.
Reports indicate that she first poured hot water on her husband, causing severe burns. She then picked up a panga and slashed him multiple times on the head and other parts of his body.
Neighbors, alarmed by the commotion, rushed to the scene and found Odhiambo badly injured. They immediately took him to Migori Level Four Hospital, where he is receiving treatment. The severity of his burns and deep cuts has left medical professionals closely monitoring his condition.
Meanwhile, the woman was arrested and taken into police custody. Authorities have launched investigations into the incident, though preliminary findings suggest that she acted out of anger upon hearing rumors of her husband’s intention to marry another woman.
Chief Owiti condemned the violent act, urging couples to resolve conflicts peacefully instead of resorting to extreme measures. He also called on community members to seek legal and traditional mediation methods when dealing with marital disputes.
Police have assured the public that the suspect will face due legal process, and further updates will be provided as investigations progress. The incident has sparked discussions on domestic violence and the challenges surrounding polygamy in some communities.
