Controversial constitutional Lawyer Miguna Miguna has gone to the defence of the judiciary warning President Willliam Ruto against defying the courts decisions.
Miguna who has from time to time supported President Ruto’s policies urged the head of state not to undermine the judiciary’s authority like his predecessors .
“Let me give President William Ruto a free but important advice: Stop threatening the judiciary. Could you stop threatening Kenyan litigants? Yes, there is corruption in every sector of Kenyan society, including at state house, where you reside and work.” stated the Canada based constitutional lawyer.
“I say NO! Stop threatening the judiciary. Remember that without the judiciary, you wouldn’t be president. You can’t pretend to protect the independence of the judiciary through threats.
The Judiciary, he argued, was independent as enshrined in the Constitution, thus, Ruto needed to respect the rule of law.
President William Ruto raised concern over the abuse of the Judiciary by individuals to sabotage Government programmes.
The President said some elements have taken captive some judicial officers to frustrate Government efforts in taming the theft of public resources.
He said it was unreasonable for a few people to have their way at the expense of the public.
The President added that the Judiciary must submit itself to the Constitution and Kenyans.
“We respect the judiciary but the judicial impunity by corrupt judicial officers must stop in Kenya. We will stop it with whatever it takes” added the president.
Ruto also maintained his stance against the court’s decision on the housing levy and Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) implementation.
“The constitution stipulates that every Kenyan is entitled to the highest standards of healthcare. In our manifesto, we had plans for Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and this has been approved by parliament. A few corrupt people are using the courts to stop these programmes and we will not allow it,” said Ruto
