Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has revealed that both he and his daughter have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
The politician made the revelation at Mathari Hospital where he had accompanied comedian Oga Obinna to visit journalist Mbugua.
“Hi si kitu ya kufanya PR nayo ama ku-enjoy wale watu wana-undergo that particular condition. Hio condition unakula dawa vizuri na ufuate ile psychiatrist wanakuambia, you’ll be okay,” he stated
Sonko went ahead to clarify his intentions, addressing any misconceptions about his motives for visiting Mathari Hospital and disclosing about his mental health.
“I am not here for vipindiree. I am here to help vile nilikuwa nime-promise kwa another forum,” he added.
The politician emphasized that his actions were not publicity stunt or for personal gain but rather a genuine effort to create awareness and help those struggling with mental health issues.
Sonko emphasized the importance of understanding and positively accepting bipolar disorder patients, stating they are normal and should not be grounds for stigmatization.
