Mike Sonko extends help to boy whose father was brutally murdered in Mathare

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has offered to support a young boy whose father was murdered. This was after the man was killed as he was escorting his son to school on Monday January 20, 2025 in Mathare, Nairobi.

The victim, identified as Michael, a construction worker, was attacked by assailants around 5:30 am on Monday as he accompanied his son.

A neighbor recounted the distressing scene, indicating that the boy helplessly witnessed the shocking event.

“This situation has truly broken my heart. I am deeply saddened by the story of this little boy whose father was stabbed to death by suspected thugs in the Mathare 4A area on Monday morning,” Sonko expressed in a post on X.

“Since the child is now orphaned, I invite him to come to me. I will continue to care for him in place of his father. May the Lord grant eternal peace to the soul of this little boy’s father. I hope that the criminals responsible for this horrific act will never find peace for the rest of their lives, and I wish them swift justice through mob action,” he added.

Meanwhile, Felix Popo, a rehabilitated former criminal and community leader, criticized the rising insecurity in the Mathare neighborhood.

The incident elicited outrage among locals, who temporarily prevented police from retrieving the body, accusing law enforcement of failing to uphold safety in the area amid recurring violence.

Eventually, officers from Muthaiga Police Station were able to collect the body after a prolonged standoff, and it was subsequently taken to the Nairobi city mortuary.
