The serene neighborhood of Runda Estate in Nairobi was abuzz with excitement during the traditional pre-wedding celebration of Matilda Igathe, the daughter of former Nairobi deputy governor Polycarp Igathe and her fiancé Luios Muthengi Kimanzi.
The event, marked by opulence and grandeur, drew close family members, friends, and prominent personalities, among them flamboyant politician Mike Sonko.
Sonko, known for his larger-than-life personality and generous spirit, turned heads with his thoughtful gift to the host.
He presented Polycarp Igathe with a bottle of the premium Johnnie Walker King George V edition, a luxurious and rare blend celebrated for its refined taste and heritage.
While receiving the exquisite gift, Igathe expressed his appreciation, saying:
“This bottle is called King George. I want to thank my brother Kimanzi and my governor Sonkoree for coming to my home today. May God bless you. This bottle we will drink with my in-law, Kimanzi,” Igathe stated.

According to a spot check at major liquor outlets in Nairobi, the price of the high-end Johnnie Walker King George V edition can reach Ksh76,000.
The gesture not only underscored Sonko’s reputation for extravagance but also highlighted his appreciation for sophisticated gifts.
Sonko previously spent a whopping Ksh1 million on a selection of luxury drinks in honour of former President Uhuru Kenyatta on his birthday in 2024.
Polycarp Igathe, a seasoned businessman and politician who vied for the Nairobi governorship in 2022, expressed heartfelt gratitude for Sonko’s generosity.
In his speech, seemingly impressed, he praised Sonko’s impeccable taste.
“Hii hata inakujanga na kitabu, hii pombe iko na logbook hata!” Igathe exclaimed.
“I am very thankful, you are my friend. I think from now on you are my in-law because you came with Kimanzi’s family so when I meet you out there in the streets, the bill will always be on you,” he added.
