Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Sunday January 12, 2025 reunited with his former Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe during the traditional wedding of Igathe’s daughter in Nairobi.
The reunion of the two leaders was a rare incident, since they have not been seen together at public events since Igathe resigned from the office of deputy governor.
This was during a colourful wedding of Igathe’s daughter Matilda who was tying the knot with her bridegroom Muthengi.
“I had the privilege of attending a vibrant ruracio ceremony for Luios Muthengi Kimanzi and Matilda Igathe at Runda Estate in Nairobi.
“Matilda is the daughter of former Deputy Governor of Nairobi, Polycarp Igathe. I extended my best wishes to them for good health and a joyful family life,” Mike Sonko noted in a statement on X.
In the video shared by Sonko on X, the two leaders seemed to have a wonderful moment, reminiscing on their past work relationship.
“I thank Kimanzi (Muthengi’s father) and my brother and my former governor Sonko, for visiting my home today,” said Igathe amid laughter.
While in office, Sonko and Igathe often clashed on ideologies and trust issues which led to a bitter fall-out that ended in Igathe’s resignation barely six months after the 2017 general elections.
Igathe resigned from his post as Nairobi County’s Deputy Governor On January 31, 2018.
His resignation came as a surprise to many Kenyans, and it stemmed from a reported lack of trust between him and his boss, then Governor Sonko.
Speaking during a press briefing after his resignation, Igathe said that he could not work under conditions that compromised his integrity and professional conduct.
