Mikel Arteta beats Pep Guardiola to win best coach award

Despite leading Arsenal to a second-place finish in the Premier League, Mikel Arteta has been beaten Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola to be named Premier League Coach of the Year at the Globe Soccer Awards in Costa Smeralda, Italy.

Arteta is also a nominee for Best Coach in Europe, and Arsenal has been shortlisted for Best Men’s Team.

During the ceremony, which was attended by his wife, Lorena, and children, Mikel Arteta issued a rallying cry to Arsenal supporters in his acceptance speech, emphasizing the club’s hunger for success.

“I feel extremely proud because when I decided to stop my career as a football player I thought that all the joy and best moments were gone, and I was totally wrong because when I started my coaching and managerial career, I love it even more.

“I have to thank all the players, coaching staff and everybody involved at the football club for making my days so enjoyable, so inspiring and for supporting me in this journey that we started four years ago that hopefully is going to take us right to the top to win many trophies.

“We’ve been building for a few years and right now we have a team that is full of enthusiasm, and so hungry to win trophies. We know the competition but we believe we can do it, so we’re going to give it a real go.”Said Arteta

The Gunners have trailed behind Manchester City, finishing second in the league for the past two seasons. However, under Arteta’s leadership, Arsenal has achieved remarkable feats, with the team enjoying one of their best-ever Premier League campaigns in the 2023/24 season.

Amassing 89 points, Arsenal fell just short of their record points tally set during the legendary Invincibles season of 2003/04.

Additionally, they clinched a record 28 victories out of 38 fixtures and netted a remarkable 91 goals while maintaining an unbeaten record against the ‘Big Six’ teams.

Arsenal is preparing for a busy summer transfer window as they seek to strengthen their squad in pursuit of their first league title since 2004.

At the same time, securing Arteta’s long-term commitment to the club is a priority, with the Spaniard’s contract set to expire in 2025.

Other winners on the night were Kylian Mbappe, who was deemed Best Men’s Player, Xabi Alonso who was named Best Coach, and Harry Kane who won Best Goalscorer.
