Millicent Omanga rejects President Ruto’s job offer

President William Ruto on Saturday October 26, 2024 appointed former nominated Senator Millicent Omanga as a board member of the Nairobi Rivers Commission.

However, shortly after the announcement, the former nominated senator publicly declared that she would not be accepting the appointment.

“It’s truly a privilege to be considered for such a vital role in improving our beloved Nairobi’s environment and public health,” she stated.

“After careful consideration, I must respectfully decline the appointment due to personal reasons,” she added.

The position is designed to focus on improving the management and rehabilitation of Nairobi’s essential water bodies, which play a crucial role in the city’s environment and overall health.

Among other roles, the commission is vital for addressing pressing issues such as pollution and habitat degradation.

In her statement, the former nominated senator expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and acknowledged the significance of the role. Yet, she cited personal reasons for her decision to decline.

Omanga has been actively engaged in public service, having previously contested for the Nairobi woman representative seat in the 2022 elections.

This background underscores her ongoing commitment to political matters.

In her announcement, Omanga stated that her current priorities would prevent her from fulfilling the responsibilities associated with the new role.

This decision reflects her understanding of the demands that come with such positions and her desire to focus on her personal commitments.

Omanga’s decision highlights these realities, emphasizing that while political roles are significant, individual circumstances can influence one’s capacity to engage fully.
