The ministry of education says it will review the rules and regulations of drama festivals following the uproar about “Echoes of War” a controversial play by the Butere Girls.
In a statement, Julius Bitok, Basic Education Principal Secretary, said the government will engage all stakeholders in reviewing the rules governing it.
‘’Even as we look back to what happened yesterday, we are going to engage all stakeholders to thoroughly review the rules that regulate drama festivals,” said Bitok.

He mentioned the importance of drama festivals in the creative industry and how talents are being nurtured at a young age.
‘’We are on course, and things are moving. We see young talents emerging. I have watched the performances and want to say this indeed is a breeding ground for nurturing talent.” Bitok stated.
His remarks come a day after Butere Girls students dramatically exited the stage without performing, demanding for their director who is Cleophas Malala, former Kakamega Senator.
The PS firmly stated that existing rules forbid non- teaching staff and individuals from outside registered educational institutions from training students.
“Existing rules forbid the involvement of non-teaching staff, unregistered teachers, or individuals from outside registered educational institutions,” the statement read.
