A delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to arrive in the country on Friday to assess Kenya’s preparedness in hosting the 2027 African Cup of Nations.
On Wednesday, a technical team from the Department of Defence (DOD), which is overseeing the project, visited the Youth Affairs and Sports Cabinet Secretary, Ababu Namwamba, to discuss the status of the stadia undergoing construction and renovation in readiness for the continental showcase.
Also present at the meeting were Principal Secretary of the State Department of Sports, Eng. Peter Tum, and representatives from FKF.
The technical team provided the CS with a status update on the ongoing construction and rehabilitation of Talanta Sports City, Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, Kip Keino Stadium, and Nyayo Stadium ahead of the CAF delegation’s visit on Friday.
The CAF delegation will be assessing the country’s level of preparedness in terms of sporting infrastructure as Kenya, along with Uganda and Tanzania, looks forward to co-hosting the African football extravaganza (AFCON) as part of the Pamoja bid for 2027.
CS Ababu expressed his satisfaction with the progress made by the DOD and the technical team in upgrading the sports stadia to meet international standards and ensuring their timely completion.
“We are on the right track. With the current dedication, I am confident we will complete this enormous project on time,” CS Ababu noted.
CS Ababu also welcomed the delegation’s visit, describing it as a quality assurance measure that will play a pivotal role in aligning the ministry’s grand infrastructure plan with international standards.
“The CAF visit is crucial as we aim to deliver state-of-the-art sporting facilities across the country,” he stated. The team from the DOD affirmed their commitment to delivering the project.
