Missing Bibirioni ward member of county assembly (MCA) Christopher Ireri has been found alive but unconscious hours after he was allegedly abducted by unknown people during a burial ceremony in Limuru.
Ireri went missing under unclear circumstances on Thursday November 28, 2024 during the burial ceremony of Erastus Nduati, a 23-year-old from Bibirioni ward, Kiambu County.
Speaking after visiting their colleague in hospital, Kiambu MCAs led by the Speaker Charles Thion’go, expressed fear following the recent happenings where former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was also attacked by goons at a burial event in Limuru.
The speaker said their colleague, Mr. Ireri was admitted to AAR hospital on Friday evening in critical condition after he was rescued by residents residing close to Kinari forest, where he was allegedly dumped by unknown people.
According to leaders who visited the MCA in hospital, he complained of pain in the neck and ribs, an indication that he was assaulted before being dumped at the forest.
“Ireri has not regained his speech completely and has been placed under the Intensive Care Unit due to the severity of his condition,” said Speaker Thion’go.
Thiong’o added that they are still waiting for him to regain speech so that he can account what actually transpired during the ordeal.
At the same time, the legislatures accused police officers of abducting their colleague, insisting that he was picked by an unmarked car resembling those used by sleuths.
Other members including the County Assembly Minority and Majority leaders called on President Ruto to lead from the front in acting against abductions in the country.
