Mount Kenya University sends 3rd cohort of nursing apprentices to Germany

Mount Kenya University (MKU) Chairman University Council and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi, officially flagged off the third cohort of Nursing Apprentices. This cohort will travel to Germany to advance their studies and gain hands-on experience in the healthcare sector.

The students have successfully completed their German language training up to level B2 and have undertaken the Nursing Apprenticeship preparatory certificate course. Their departure marks a significant milestone in their academic and professional journey.

The flag-off ceremony took place at the Mwai Kibaki Convention Centre, attended by students and faculty members. The students have been trained by experienced healthcare lecturers alongside a DAAD-sponsored German tutor, ensuring they are well-prepared for their transition.

“At MKU, we are dedicated to fostering international collaborations that enhance education, skills development, and employability. Our partnership with Hochschule Koblenz University of Applied Sciences in Germany has played a vital role in equipping our students with world-class training and global career opportunities,” Prof. Jaganyi said.

Upon arrival in Germany, the students will be welcomed by AG-Career Hub (Germany) for mentorship and professional integration, ensuring a smooth transition into their careers. Their apprenticeships will be hosted at Caritas Hospital in Bad Mergentheim and Tauberbischofsheim, our esteemed healthcare partners.

MKU has send a special appreciation goes to the German Embassy for its steadfast support in this initiative. Their efficient facilitation of visa processing—completing it in a record time of just four days—has significantly contributed to the success of the program. The embassy has also actively promoted this initiative, further strengthening the Kenya-Germany partnership in skills development.

The ceremony also saw the welcoming of the fourth cohort of Nursing Apprenticeship students, who have now begun their two-semester training at MKU. We look forward to seeing them follow in the footsteps of their predecessors as they prepare for their journey to Germany.
