Moi International Airport in Mombasa has been ranked among the best airports in Africa, according to a latest report.
The airports ranking was disclosed by Transport cabinet secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who noted that Moi International Airport was recognised among the best for offering excellent air travel services.
The rankings emerged at a time when Moi International Airport in Mombasa County increased flight frequencies to 450 per week.
This follows skyward airlines launching direct flights from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi to Moi airport in Mombasa.
Transport cabinet secretary Kipchumba Murkomen was among the first group of passengers on the new skyward express route, as he arrived along with some other politicians at the Mombasa airport.
Skyward Express will operate two flights daily from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Mombasa.
Murkomen commended Skyward for launching the direct flights to Mombasa, saying that the move will enhance connectivity in the country.
The Transport CS added that the flights will also boost tourism, businesses, and create job opportunities for kenyans.
He also disclosed that the national government has reduced taxes for airline companies, promising to further improve policies that support the growth of local airlines.
