Moi’s grandson is back in court over child upkeep case

National NewsNews

Former President Daniel Arap Moi’s grandson Collins Toroitich, is in trouble with the law over Contempt of Court for failing to pay child upkeep as ordered by Nakuru Court.

Collins Toroitich’s ex-wife Gladys Jeruto went to court claiming that he disobeyed the Court Orders, abandoned his children and left her all the responsibility of taking care of the children.

She admitted that she has been taking care of medical expenses and school fees for the minors since June 2021 and has single-handedly spent KSH.2.8 Million.

She further stated that the children are currently out of school since she is unable to raise fees and pay for other expenses.

Jeruto has called on the court to force Collins Toroitich to refund her the money and take up his role as a father.

Nakuru Court Magistrate Kipkirui Kibellion has ordered the accused to showcase why he has failed to honour the court’s judgment in the case.

Collins was ordered to pay the ex-wife a tune of 1.5 million shillings every year to cater for the two children’s medical expenses, school fees and entertainment.

According to Ms Tagi, Mr Moi had abandoned her children in 2012 leaving all their responsibilities to her.

She told the court that they lived together for four years between 2008 and 2012 where they were blessed with the two minors.

Ms Tagi complained that the burden of raising the children alone was overwhelming and needed the co-parent to also shoulder part of it adding that she had no stable source of income.

The attempt by Moi to deny the children was unsuccessful after a DNA test that was sanctioned by the court revealed that he was their biological father.

Having been cornered by the evidence, Mr Moi ceded ground and offered to provide NHIF cover to the children after claiming to be broke.

The case will be mentioned on February 21.
