Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has ordered a stop to 20 high-rise building projects.
Especially if they linked are to the same developer responsible for the recent collapse of an 11-storey structure that resulted in the death of one individual.
The building, located in the Kibokoni area, was brought down last Wednesday.
Although Governor Nassir did not disclose the name of the contractor, he confirmed that the individual or company would be held accountable for the fatal incident.
He stated that the construction did not meet safety guidelines, citing the use of non-compliant steel and building components.
Despite repeated questions, the governor refrained from identifying either the halted developments or the county personnel suspended in connection with the disaster.
One official has been placed on suspension while another was sent on leave.
Nassir mentioned that further legal steps, including revoking professional licenses, would follow pending investigations.

Samples of construction materials were collected by experts over four hours.
Nassir emphasized that no assumptions would be made until the test results were available, but he vowed to ensure the responsible party is barred from future work in Kenya.
The governor also declined to clarify the zoning rules governing building heights on Mombasa Island, where several towers rise beyond 15 floors.
The body of a man believed to be trapped under the debris has yet to be recovered.
Nassir confirmed that footage from surveillance cameras suggests a person was inside at the time of the collapse.
He assured the family of the deceased, Yusuf Abdi, of the county’s support if they pursue legal action.
