Detectives in Lamu have seized 928 grams of cocaine in an operation led by the antinarcotic unit in Lamu County.
The suspected bags of cocaine have an approximated street value of Ksh3.7 million.
This was after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) invaded homes during a security operation that was aimed at eliminating drug cartels in the coastal region.
Among the homes raided, one in particular had five pellets of cocaine each weighing 85 grams and a weighing machine.
The team seized the illegal substance and secured them at local police stations awaiting presentation in court as exhibits.
In one of the other homes raided, a clear polythene bag with cocaine that weighs at least 164 grams was recovered.
A bag of 354g was also seized from another home that the DCI was carrying out investigations.
The final residence contained 325 grams of the drug, as detectives disclosed that suspected drug dealers were operating mostly at night.
In addition, the DCI added that 7 suspects were arrested during the operation.
“As a result of these operations, seven individuals were apprehended on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking. All the suspects are in lawful custody pending arraignment,” DCI noted.
