A Mombasa-based lawyer has been charged with stealing KSh17 million from her client.
Sheila Nkatha appeared before Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Rita Orare on Thursday, November 21.
She pleaded not guilty to stealing and issuance of a bad cheque.
The court heard that she allegedly committed the offence on diverse dates between the 17th of February 2024 and 23rd of July 2024 at Mvita in Mombasa County.
The KSh17,500,000 was part of KSh52,500,000 — proceeds realized from the sale of property belonging to Mr. Cripsy Limited.
The money had been received by her for on behalf of Mr. Cripsy Limited while she was acting as an agent for the company.
She also denied nine (9) counts of issuing bouncing cheques to Osman Mahmoud Mohamed.
Prosecution Counsel Yassir Mohamed informed the court that the accused’s bond terms should be commensurate to the money she allegedly stole from her clients.
Court will rule today (22nd of November 2024) on whether the accused will be released on bond.
