Mombasa: Man stabs his 25-year-old daughter to death as she tried to stop him from beating her mother

Police are searching for a man who stabbed his daughter to death during a domestic quarrel in Changamwe, Mombasa County.

During the incident, the man was fighting with his wife before their daughter intervened to disperse them. Her father picked a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the chest.

Diana Yumbya, 25, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Bomu Hospital after being stabbed in the chest by her father Simon Mumbi, on Saturday June 1, according to police reports.

Witnesses told police that the tragic incident was sparked by a quarrel over a solar rechargeable lamp, following a power blackout in the area.

“Yesterday 1/06/2024 at around 2305 hours, the suspect picked a quarrel with the deceased over a solar rechargeable lamp and suddenly drew a knife and stabbed her on the chest.

“He then escaped after the incident. She was rushed to Bomu Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival,” police noted in a statement.

Police officers visited the scene of crime, before proceeding to hospital where they confirmed that the body of the victim had a visible deep stab wound.

The body was removed to the coast general hospital mortuary for preservation pending postmortem.

“One kitchen knife with blood stains was recovered and kept as an exhibit,” police noted.

Meanwhile, the officers investigating the matter disclosed that they are following all possible leads to ensure the suspect is arrested and charged with murder.
