The President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, has been elected as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) representative on the FIFA Council after securing a landslide victory with 49 out of 52 votes.
Election Results
The election took place during the 14th Extraordinary General Assembly of CAF in Cairo on Wednesday, where Lekjaa defeated his opponents by a significant margin. His competitors included: Hani Abou Rida (Egypt), Djibrilla Hima Hamidou (Niger),Ahmed Yahya (Mauritania) and Souleiman Waberi (Djibouti)
CAF Leadership Updates
The assembly also saw the unopposed re-election of Patrice Motsepe as CAF President for a second term, reinforcing stability in African football leadership.
New Term Duration
All elected officials, including Lekjaa, will serve a four-year term until 2029 as they work to shape the future of football on the continent and globally.
Meanwhile South African Billionaire Patrice Motsepe has secured another four-year term as Confederation of African Football (CAF) President following his unopposed re-election during the 14th Extraordinary Summit in Egypt.
Motsepe, was first elected in 2021, also unopposed, with the backing of FIFA President Gianni Infantino. He succeeded Ahmad Ahmad, who was banned for corruption.
Eto’o Elected to CAF Executive Committee
Former Cameroon international and Cameroon Football Federation President, Samuel Eto’o, was also elected unopposed as the Central African representative on the CAF Executive Committee.
Eto’o’s election comes just days after winning an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), overturning his earlier exclusion by CAF’s Governance Committee.
