Mortician caught ferrying dead foetus in a carrier bag nearly lynched by irate mob

Police on Friday evening came to the rescue of a mortician who was almost lynched by an irate mob in Thika, Kiambu County.

60-year-old John Matora, who appeared drunk, was ferrying a dead foetus in a carrier bag.

As he alighted from a motorcycle at Corner 3 area, he slid on the murky ground and the foetus slipped out of the bag, attracting a crowd to the horrific scene.

Matora is said to be a mortician at General Kago Hospital, but had allegedly come from Avenue Hospital with the foetus on that day.

Irate locals descended on him with blows and kicks as they probed him on why he was ferrying a dead foetus in a carrier bag.

One of the residents alerted police from Kimuchu Police Post, who saved him just before he was beaten to death.

The officers rushed the suspect to Tumaini Medical Centre bearing injuries on his head. He was reportedly treated and discharged in “fair condition”.

Police transferred the recovered to General Kago mortuary awaiting further examination.

Meanwhile, the suspect is under custody at Makongeni Police Station pending arraignment.
