Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria has come to the aid of ‘forgotten’ mama mboga Pauline Njoroge who was a familiar face during United Democratic Alliance (UDA) campaigns.
CS Kuria made the promise after attending the burial of Pauline’s only son in Githunguri, Kiambu County.
He sympathized with the mama mboga for losing her son who was 51 years at the time of his demise.
Kuria pledged to support the three children left behind by Pauline’s son.
“Mrs. Pauline Njoroge, popularly known as ‘Mama Mboga’, was an instrumental face in our campaign in the 2022 election campaigns. Today, I joined her, her family, relatives and friends in Githunguri, Kiambu County, as she laid to rest her only son, Alex Mbugua Waithira, who rested at the age of 51.
“I have committed to educate, and empower the three sons he has left behind,” he wrote.
There was a showdown at the funeral however after area Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba attacked the CS among other present UDA leaders for duping the elderly woman.
Wamuchomba faulted her colleagues for taking on Pauline Njoroge around the country during the 2022 campaigns and failing to reward her.
At the time, Pauline was a trader at Kangangi Market in Kiambu Town.
“You (gov’t) used this mama mboga during your campaigns and disposed her off without even restocking her business. I wish you gave her even KSh1 million to open a proper shop that she will benefit from,” the lawmaker posed.
She went on to criticize the leaders for showing up at her son’s funeral after going silent on her even after she exposed them for failing to compensate her.
“How do you think the hustlers feel when they see you gov’t officials on TV cruising around in choppers yet they are suffering out here? You are waiting for something else to happen to Pauline so that you can flock her with your big cars.”
Wamuchomba recently launched a political movement dubbed ‘Team Kusikiza Ground’ alongside her Embakasi East counterpart Babu Owino and other ODM leaders.
