President William Ruto’s economic advisor Moses Kuria has criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over alleged plans to lead protests in Mount Kenya region.
In a statement on Monday February 10, 2025, Moses Kuria, who is the former Public Service Cabinet Secretary accused Gachagua of attempting to run a selfish political agenda by allegedly allowing Mt Kenya residents to protest while other regions pursued development.
Kuria explained that he had no problem with anyone advancing their legitimate political goals but calling for demonstrations for Mt Kenya youths to get killed on the streets was unreasonable.
“I have no problem with anyone advancing their legitimate political goals. But telling young men from my region to come to the streets and get shot dead while other regions are pursuing agenda is very selfish,” Kuria posted on X.
The former Public Service CS added that whoever wants Mt Kenya youth to come out and get killed should start with his sons.
Kuria was reponding to Gachagua who had threatened to lead mass protests if chief justice Martha Koome is removed from office.
Speaking during an interview on Sunday, February 9, 2025 Gachagua said he will not allow CJ Koome to be removed from office, the same way he was impeached.
According to the former DP, politicians from Mt Kenya region will not keep quiet if the government begins to frustrate leaders from the region.
At the same time, Gachagua alleged that there was a scheme by President William Ruto’s government to dismantle the Supreme Court ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“They want to chase Martha Koome the same way they chased me. We shall not keep quiet again if they remove Martha Koome, we shall go out to the streets and close the roads,” Gachagua said.
