Moses Kuria dismisses ‘one man one shilling debate’ as tribal

Public Service, Performance, and Delivery cabinet secretary Moses Kuria has condemned the one-man, one-shilling proposal, stating its unhealthy for the nation.

The one-man, one -shilling, proposal has been a topic discussion in Kenya particularly regarding revenue allocation.

The proposal seeks to ensure sharing of national resources depending on the population of a county or constituency.

For instance, counties with a higher population should be allocated more funds, according to the proposal.

”It is a legitimate question and I think the bulk of the people who’ll be at Limuru III will be justified to talk about one man, one vote, one shilling. What I cannot understand is people like me crying with them, yet I am a Cabinet Secretary,” Kuria noted.

Kuria noted that his decision of rejecting the one man, one shilling proposal was arrived at after considering the views from majority of Kenyans.

”We need Kenya. The most significant inclination for people, especially from this region, is to really invest in Kenya.

“I am saying this as someone who travels across the country and finds people from this county all over the country. They ask me, when they hear some people talking about, I don’t know, seclusion or isolation, they ask me, are you thinking clearly?” Kuria posed.

Moses Kuria argued that the debate could potentially split Kenya along ethnic lines, creating divisions rather than unity and peace.

He added that during his tours in different parts of the country, he encountered citizens questioning whether Mt. Kenya leaders truly supported such a divisive idea.

However, he found it questionable for a senior government official like himself to complain about it.
