Most wanted drug trafficker arrested in Nairobi

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, August 21, arrested Nancy Kigunzu alias Mathee Wa Ngara in Nairobi’s CBD over claims of drug trafficking.

This was after DCI detectives launched an operation in search of Mathe Wa Ngara, an allegedly well-known bhang seller in Ngara, Kamukunji constituency.

She was immediately taken to the DCI headquarters, along Kiambu Road for questioning as officers prepare to present her in court.

The suspect, Nancy Kigunzu had gone into hiding after her associate, Teresia Wanjiru, was arrested on August 15.

Teresia Wanjiru was arrested with KSh13.4 million cash, 26 bags of bhang, 4 cartons of rolling materials, 173 packed sweets, and a carton of suspected weed cookies in Kariua slums, Ngara.

She was arrested following an operation conducted by officers from Parklands Police Station and sleuths from the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Trans National Organized Crime Unit.

Teresia was arrested alongside three other suspects who were found at the scene in the sprawling slums of Kariua, in Nairobi’s Ngara neighborhood.

The family of Teresiah Wanjiru, defended her, arguing that she was wrongly arrested for crimes she did not commit.

Speaking during an interview with NTV, Teresiah’s son defended her, maintaining that her mother was innocent.

“The woman police were looking for is Nancy Kigunzu who has been arrested before, but my mother works at a hotel in town,” her son said during the interview.

Mathe Wa Ngara had on Monday morning filed a petition in the High Court, seeking anticipatory bail. Through her lawyer Dunstan Omari, she blamed her predicament on business rivalry, adding that the arrest was an act of intimidation.

Kigunzu blamed the police for arresting her two sons, who are minors on August 15, claiming that their rights were being violated.
