Most wanted robbery, sim swap fraudsters arrested in Bomet

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two robbery suspects who are members of an armed gang in Bomet.

In a statement on Wednesday February 14, 2024 the DCI noted that the two were part of the criminals terrorizing residents in Bomet, Kericho and Nakuru counties.

The two were arrested during an ongoing security operation to weed out the criminal syndicate which is also notorious for sim swap fraud.

“Kevin Kiplangat aka Elvis, 31 and Evan Kiprotich Chirchir aka Protio, 22 were arrested in Mulot and Chepalungu areas of Bomet respectively.

“The ongoing operation is spearheaded by detectives from DCI Headquarters, following numerous complaints of sim swap fraud by known gang members, most of whom have ongoing court cases across the country,” DCI noted in a statement posted on X.

Kiplangat and Chirichir are being held at Litein Police Station pending identification parade and arraignment in Kericho Law Courts.

They will be charged with a violent robbery that was reported at the station on December 29, 2023.

After arraignment at the Kericho Law Court, the suspects will also be processed by other stations where electronic fraud cases implicating them have been reported.
