National NewsNews

Mount Kenya University (MKU) is among the top five universities in Kenya, this is according to a survey by uniRank.

In the latest ranking by the survey, MKU has been ranked fifth in Kenya, behind only University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, Strathmore University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Mount Kenya University has been ranked among the best universities both in Kenya and Africa.

While ranking the Thika-based institution, uniRank based their survey on the following criteria;

  • being chartered, licensed or accredited by the appropriate Kenyan higher education-related organization,
  • offering at least three-year bachelor’s degrees or postgraduate master’s or doctoral degrees, and
  • delivering courses predominantly in a traditional, non-distance education format.

The rankings were also based on research, knowledge transfer, international outlook and teaching in the respective institution among other performance indicators.

“uniRank aims to provide a non-academic League Table of the top Universities in Africa based on valid, unbiased and non-influenceable web metrics provided by independent web intelligence sources rather than data submitted by the Universities themselves,” uniRank says on its website.

In Africa, Mount Kenya University is ranked 51st.
