An unidentified number of mourners heading to the burial of Kibwezi East Member of Parliament (MP) Jessica Mbalu’s son were involved in an accident on Saturday morning.
The accident involved a black Lexus which reportedly rolled severally along the Emali-Sultan Road while enroute to Makueni.
Witnesses rushed to the scene after the car came to a standstill hoping to rescue the occupants of the luxurious vehicle.
The number of occupants was not immediately established nor their health state.
MP Jessical Mbalu’s son will be buried today (Saturday) after a memorial service was held at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Karen on Thursday, January 18.
National leaders who attended the service include; National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, Attorney General Justin Muturi, Wiper Democratic Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka among others.
Speaker Wetang’ula expressed his deepest sympathies for the loss of Mbalu’s son saying that it was the most difficult occurrence to comprehend.
He acknowledged that MP Mbalu is an industrious leader who has returned to serve her constituency three times in the August House.
He praised the lawmaker as a strong leader even in religious matters indicating that she was a member of the Catholic Members of Parliament, expressing confidence that she will emerge strongly and weather the storm.
“My words to you are inadequate. Accept my deepest condolences and that of the Parliament fraternity for the loss of your dear son, Benedict Musyoka Mbalu.
“Now like never before, our thoughts and sympathies are with you and your family. We are praying for your strength during this painful moment of mourning your dear son,” he added.
The Speaker said that he learnt of the demise of Benedict through the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Samuel Njoroge, and assured the Mbalu family that Parliament and the country at large were standing with them at the difficult moment of grief.
Jessica Mbalu’s son passed away on Sunday, January 14 in an accident occasoned by the heavy rains.
