Pokot South MP David Pkosing is in trouble with authorities yet again over his remarks.
The lawmaker has been summoned to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices in Kapenguria, West Pokot County, today (Monday, January 16).
This time round, Pkosing is at loggerheads with the authorities after his remarks on the state of insecurity in the county and region at large.
In a lengthy Facebook post on January 13, the lawmaker had launched allegations against Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers based in Turkana South for aiding and abetting cattle rustling.
“It is very sad that yesterday [Friday, January 12] KDF based in Turkana South made away with close to 100 cows of peasants who were grazing at Lami Nyeusi area in Pokot Central. We are further told that the taken animals were massacred in Kainuk by suspected Turkana people,” the MP alleged.
David Pkosing supporters
Supporters of MP Pkosing on Monday morning camped outside Kapenguria Police Station to protest the legislator’s summoning.
They implored the government to look into Pkosing’s claims and solve the insecurity situation in the region, instead of arresting him.
He further claimed that the said behaviour from KDF officers is what was witnessed during late last year’s incident where residents were killed.
KDF blamed
“This is the type of KDF recklessness we saw last month when suspected KDF bombed dead our innocent people in the same area,” he added.
He called upon Defense Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale to look into the allegations and set the record straight.
In another incident in March 2023, Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai accused KDF of using bombs on civilians in Turkana South and West Pokot in the ongoing operation to weed out bandits in the region.
“It is inhuman for the military to use bombs against innocent civilians. We have reports that some residents, among them children, and livestock were wounded during the incident. I condemn this in the strongest terms possible,” Lomorukai said.
