Gatundu South Member of Parliament Gabriel Kagombe was on Friday, June 7 released on a KSh1 million cash bail in a case he is accused of shooting dead a bodaboda rider in Thika, Kiambu County.

Appearing before Machakos High Court Judge Francis Olel, MP Kagombe pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

In releasing him, Justice Olel gave the legislator the alternative of a bond of KSh2 million and a surety of a similar amount.

“The court has considered applications by both the prosecution and defence lawyers and hereby order that the accused person be released on Sh2 million bond or Sh1 million cash bail and surety of a similar amount,” Olel ordered.

Justice Olel ordered that the MP be reproduced in court on July 17, 2024. The Judge also ordered that the probation department should do a report and submit it before him in 30 days time.

“The suspect should neither contact witnesses nor visit the area where the incident occurred,” Olele ruled.

Kagombe was arrested on Friday, May 31 in Kileleshwa area, Nairobi County, three days after police launched a manhunt for him.

Investigators report that MP Kagombe’s gun was the one that discharged the bullet that killed 26-year-old David Nduati.

The shooting incident occurred when supporters of Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a and Kamenu ward MCA Peter Mburu faced off over construction of Kiganjo market within Kamenu Ward, with both leaders claiming credit for the project.
