Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe was on Monday, June 3 arraigned over the fatal shooting of a boda boda rider in Thika, Kiambu county, on May 17.
The Machakos Law Court directed that the MP be detained at Muthaiga Police Station until Friday, June 7.
The court also directed that the legislator be taken for mental assessment on Wednesday, June 5 to ascertain if he is fit to face murder charges.
Kagombe was arrested on Friday, May 31 in Kileleshwa area, Nairobi County, three days after police launched a manhunt for him.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that MP Kagombe’s gun was the one that discharged the bullet that killed 26-year-old David Nduati.
The shooting incident occurred when supporters of Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a and Kamenu ward MCA Peter Mburu faced off over construction of Kiganjo market within Kamenu Ward, with both leaders claiming credit for the project.
