Keiyo South MP Gideon Kimaiyo on Thursday, December 21 graduated from Moi University with a Master’s Degree.
The youthful lawmaker was graduating with his third Master’s degree, this time round, a Tourism Management Master’s Degree.
But the MP chose a rather unconventional way to celebrate this fete, especially considering his stature in the society.
“…But to surprise of many, I had no delegation with me. Also no celebration or party,” MP Kimaiyo says on X, formerly Twitter.
Instead, the MP decided to donate the money he could have used to organise a fancy graduation party to his former school, (Kaptarkok Primary School).
The money, MP Kimaiyo says, will be channelled towards renovation works at the school and buying new uniform for all the pupils.
“This will give a facelift to the school. I have asked the parents and teachers to suggest the new modern uniform. All the pupils will get a set of new full uniform plus shoes. Always optimistic that one day, all children will access education,” the lawmaker adds.
Troubled school life
He dropped out of Tambach High School due to school fees, finishing Form 3 and 4 at Kiptulos Secondary School.
Despite scoring a B (Plain) in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, he was not able to join university.
Sponsored by former MP, the late Nicholas Biwott, Kimaiyo enroled at Kenya Utalii College in Nairobi, to pursue a Diploma in Travel Operations.
“After college I got employment. Enrolled myself for undergraduate degree at Moi University, pursuing Tourism Management. Graduated 2014. Enrolled for Masters degree for the same but did just course work pending thesis,” he says.
He adds, “2015 I enrolled for double masters at USIU & University of Nairobi. Graduated 2016 at University of Nairobi with Master of Business Administration (MBA) strategic management option. 2017, I graduated from USIU (United States International University) with Master of Arts International Relations with specialisation in Diplomacy.”
