Sabatia MP Clement Sloya has embarked on construction of exhaustible ablution blocks in public schools to improve sanitation and hygiene in the institutions.
Sloya explained that he has decided to move away from construction of pit latrines in schools because such sanitation facilities were not sustainable due to scarcity of land.
“Through the NG-CDF I have prioritized the development of exhaustible ablution blocks as a sustainable solution that also ensures the efficient use of available land,” he added.
The MP was speaking at Endeli Primary School after inspecting the exhaustible ablution block that is ready for use by learners.

The MP emphasized that constructing ablution blocks across the constituency was among his first initiatives upon assuming office.
He noted that many schools had faced the risk of closure due to inadequate toilet facilities, which posed serious health hazards.
“The construction of ablution blocks in the constituency was among my first initiatives upon assuming office. The lawmaker further highlighted that the initiative aligns with Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) principles by promoting proper sanitation and hygiene standards in schools.
He reiterated that by investing in sustainable infrastructure, the government is not only safeguarding the health and dignity of students but also strengthening the foundation for quality education in the community.
The MP noted that he has decided to use funds from the constituency kitty to renovate most primary and secondary schools that were in a dilapidated state.
“Most of the schools in the constituency were in a sorry state. Some had leaking roofs that subjected learners to suffering during raining season,” he added.
Sloya urged the government to post more teachers to schools in the constituency noting that they were facing a shortage.
He supported efforts being undertaken to anchor NG-CDF into the constitution noting that the fund has played a major role in uplifting the living standards of the rural folk at the same time assisting in supporting development programmes geared towards helping local people.
He took issue with his political detractors who question his leadership noting that they will not deter him from realizing his dream of enhancing development to better the constituency.
