MP Peter Salasya surrenders to EACC headquarters for questioning

National NewsNewsPolitics

Mumias East Mp Peter Salasya on Tuesday January 23 presented himself to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) headquarters in Nairobi.

He was accompanied by two of his lawyers.

This was after Salasya was summoned by the commission’s CEO Twalib Mbarak to give a statement on assault allegations and to answer questions regarding his public conduct.

Twalib notified him that there would be two officers available to receive and record his statement.

If the allegations were to be true, this would amount to a serious breach of the integrity and ethical requirements governing the conduct of state officers.

This aligns with the provisions outlined in chapter six of the constitution and the leadership and Integrity Act of 2012.

Salasya arrested

On Wednesday January 17, he presented himself in court to answer to assault charges.

This was after he assaulted Malaha-Isango ward MCA Peter Walunya Indimuli at a funeral on Friday January 12.

Initially, the legislator had failed to appear before Mumias Senior Resident Magistrate Marcella Onyanya on Monday January 15, claiming he was ill.

The MP was arraigned in court and was released on a bond of Ksh50,000 after he denied the charges against him.

However, Salasya had been arrested a few months ago for threatening a magistrate who ordered him to refund Ksh50,000 he owed a businessman.

In his defence, the legislator said that the charges on him were being pushed by Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa.

”I want to tell the governor to do his job and let me do mine. I respect you, stop frustrating me.”

”My only problem was KMTC and Mumias Sugar. I have let him be,”said the MP.
