Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has called out mobile service provider Safaricom over money sent to the wrong number.

Salasya took out his frustrations via Facebook, claiming Safaricom was yet to act on his reversal request.

“I just sent 32500 to the wrong person I notified them they told me they have secured 29200 after two hours I call they told me the person on the other side declined to return the money,” the lawmaker stated.

According to Salasya, the mobile service provider should have taken action to ensure his money is refunded as they are in control of the system.

“In this case who has the original right to ownership of money the sender or the receiver?” Salasya posed.

He went on to warn Kenyans against making such mistakes as the mobile service would not assist them.

Hundreds of social media users flooded the comment section, with some sharing their own experiences.

“Sometime back I sent 30,000 to the wrong number as well and they did the same joke to me and reversed 60/= only,” Princess Zariah said.

“I sent 127Gs to the wrong number but I didn’t share it with my closest friend even after the reversal failed, you just sent 32Gs and you’re all over social media shouting to the top of your voice,” another Facebook user, Luke Suleiman opined.

Safaricom is trying

Others defended Safaricom, saying they are doing their best in an era where cyber crimes are on the rise due to advancing technology.

“Let’s appreciate Safaricom. They are trying their best. Before you press OK to send there is an option of yes and no and it takes almost a minute so I guess you were not extra keen mhesh,” Hillary Korir stated.

Another social media user, Kiptoo Joash, said, “That is why they have 2 options after sending the money yes or no nowadays.”

Salasya reminded of his role

Some netizens were also quick to remind Salasya that as an MP, he should draft a bill to address such incidents.

“Come up with a bill in parliament to regulate some of the challenges we go through daily. At the same time that bill can protect our bundles once I buy they should not force me to use the bundles within a specific period of time,” Henry Omasire challenged.

“An MP crying on social media like me, a legislator who can take a bill to parliament to save hustlers,” Amos Malaba commented.
