MP Peter Salasya declares his 2027 presidential bid

In a bold move, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has declared his intention to contest for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.

In a statement shared on his social media pages on Monday, April 28, Salasya revealed that his decision comes after deep reflection, wide consultations, and careful consideration of the state of the nation.

His declaration marks the entry of one of Kenya’s most vocal young leaders into the presidential race, setting the stage for what could be a transformative and youth-driven campaign.

“This decision is not made lightly,” Salasya emphasized. “It is born out of a profound desire to offer bold, transformative leadership that will reposition our great nation for industrial growth, economic empowerment, and social justice.”

The first-time MP criticized the current trajectory of Kenya’s economy, lamenting the continued export of skilled labor while local industries struggle and unemployment among the youth remains rampant. He outlined an ambitious vision centered on manufacturing, innovation, and industrialization as key pillars to create sustainable jobs and unlock the full potential of Kenya’s people.

In a move signaling a break from traditional political structures, Salasya announced that he will be seeking the presidency under a new political movement. While the party’s name and leadership team will be unveiled later this year, he promised that the movement would “embody the dreams and aspirations of a new Kenya: a Kenya where opportunity is not a privilege for the few, but for all of us.”

The 35-year-old MP extended an open invitation to all Kenyans particularly the youth, women, workers, entrepreneurs, and dreamers to join him on what he described as a journey toward a new dawn for our beloved country.

“Together, we can and we shall build a prosperous, inclusive, and united Kenya,” Salasya concluded, invoking blessings for both the citizens and the nation.

Salasya’s announcement is likely to energize the political landscape, bringing fresh urgency to debates around industrialization, employment, and economic reform. As Kenya edges closer to the 2027 elections, his campaign could attract significant attention, particularly among younger voters eager for new leadership and fresh ideas.
