Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament (MP) Zaheer Jhanda has set the record straight on claims he is involved in illegal business.

MP Jhanda was speaking during an interview on TV47’s Mfahamu Kiongozi show with Liz Mutuku.

“I have never done anything funny. People associate me with funny things like ‘wash wash’ but I have never done any of those things in my life.

“If anyone in this country has evidence linking me to any dirty business they should present it. I have never engaged in any funny business,” the lawmaker asserted.

He recalled a gold scam in 2019 where he was named as a person of interest by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

“During the last administration of Uhuru Kenyatta I was accused of being involved in a gold scandal along with Raila Odinga.

“My role was very simple then. To facilitate smooth transit of the gold cargo to Dubai- that the Arabs pay their taxes and follow due processes. I knew nothing about those gold businesses,” Jhanda explained.

The legislator affirmed that he could account for every penny to his name despite the numerous accusations.

Jhanda, who has been spotted on several occasions in the company of high profile leaders, clinched the Nyaribari Chache seat for the first time in 2022 after two attempts.

The father of four lost narrowly to Richard Nyagaka Tongi Jubilee Party during the 2017 elections. Tongi of Jubilee Party won the seat after garnering 14,410 votes against Wiper candidate Jhanda’s 11,710.

Jhanda intimated that his late mother revived his fighting his spirit just before she passed away.

“My mother passed away about two years ago just before elections. before she passed away she told me ‘my son I know you love politics and you have vied two times, but this you will get the seat’.”

He won the seat under a UDA ticket with an impressive 31,694 votes against ‘native’ competitors.
