Mukuru: More than 460 learners forced to enroll in alternative schools after demolition

More than 460 learners at Anointed Academy in Embakasi South, Nairobi County, will be forced to enroll in alternative schools after the learning institution was demolished for being in public land.

During the demolition exercise, area MP Julius Mawathe lamented that the public utility land had been encroached by private schools, resulting in congestion of the Mukuru Community Center that is the only public learning center within the locality.

“It’s public property and a thief is a thief. They have been encroaching this land for the last 16 years. Our children in Imara Daima deserve to advance their education beyond primary school. We will construct Imara Daima Secondary School in that land,” MP Mawathe said.

Parents also raised concerns over another private school — St. Nicholas Junior Academy — sitting within the public land. Answering to the plea of the parents, MP Mawathe said that demolishing the private school will need a lot of funding therefore he will wait for funding from NGCDF.

The Mkuru Community Center which was reclaimed from a private school is now serving learners from play group to Junior Secondary School.

According to area MP plans to construct more classes are underway to help decongest the classes to provide a favourable learning environment for the learners.
