There was an atmosphere of pure joy at Tambaya PCEA Church in Mukurweini on Sunday as 95-year-old Ibrahim Mbogo walked down the aisle with his 90-year-old beloved, Tabitha Wangui Mbogo.
The couple, who have been together for 64 years, chose to renew their vows in a white wedding, symbolizing their unwavering love and commitment.
Ibrahim and Tabitha’s love story began in the 1960s,.
They first met and quickly fell in love.
Though they married under Kikuyu customary law, the couple decided that, as Christians, it was fitting to have a church wedding to solidify their union in the eyes of their faith.
“We met and fell in love in 1960, and we’ve been together ever since,” Mr Mbogo shared with a smile, speaking to reporters outside the church.
“We talked it over and decided that a white wedding would be a beautiful way to honour our love and faith.”
Tabitha, equally radiant, shared the secret to their long and happy marriage: respect and the willingness to apologize.
“Women, respect your husbands. If you do that, you will live as we have,” she advised. “And when you make a mistake, apologize and seek forgiveness.”
Their wedding was a celebration of their love and an inspiration to all who attended, including Mukurwe-ini MP John Kaguchia.
The MP, who was among the guests, emphasized the importance of strong family bonds, stating, “There is no greater gift than the gift of family.
The family unit is what makes a nation thrive.
I hope we can all take a lesson from what this wonderful couple has shown us today, that it is truly beautiful to grow old together.”
The sight of Ibrahim and Tabitha, hand in hand, exchanging vows after more than six decades together, left a lasting impression on everyone present.
A true testament that love knows no age and that true commitment only deepens with time.
As they walked out of the church, newlyweds once more, they carried with them not just their happiness, but the admiration and warm wishes of all who witnessed their extraordinary day.
