Mumias East member of parliament (MP) Peter Salasya on Wednesday January 17, presented himself in court to answer to assault charges.
This was after he assaulted Malaha-Isango ward MCA Peter Walunya Indimuli at a funeral on Friday January 12.
Initially, the legislator had failed to appear before Mumias Senior Resident Magistrate Marcella Onyanya on Monday January 15, claiming he was ill.
Advocates led by Arnold Magina, on behalf of the complainant, asked the court to cancel bond terms for the accused MP after he failed to appear in adherence with court orders.
According to his statement, the assaulted MCA Indimuli said he took to the podium during the funeral of Jesmus Kodia at Maraba village to welcome Salasya who is the area MP.
However, when the lawmaker took the microphone, he began making unpalatable sentiments which forced the MCA to request him to observe decorum during the sombre event.
Meanwhile, according to the clip making rounds on social media, the Legislator descended on the MCA with slaps and blows forcing security personnel to intervene.
Panic rocked the mourners as some for safety while gunshots erupted.
Officers from Shianda Police Station responded to distress calls to restore calm and allow the funeral to proceed uninterrupted.
The MCA had his P3 form processed while police launched a manhunt for Salasya and arrested him within the day.
Salasya is not new to controversy as he was arrested a few months ago for threatening a magistrate who ordered him to refund KSh500,000 he owed a businessman.
