Grief and fear has engulfed a village in Gitugi ward, Mathioya, Murang’a County after a serial killer hacked two men to death.
In a bizarre incident in Chui Village, residents say the suspect was released from prison two years ago after serving seven years for the murder of an elderly couple — Keziah Muthoni and Joseph Geita.
Reports indicate that he went berserk and hacked Stanley Kamau Irungu and Benard Mahiu Mwangi (both 44 years) to death after a disagreement while in a local bar.
At Kamau’s home, it was all tears and grief with his mother Lillian Muthoni yet to come to terms with his son’s untimely death. When TV47 visited the home, she was wailing and cursing the perpetrator.
Kamau’s father, Irungu Maina, could not hold back tears as he narrated how his son’s head had deep cuts, with the lifeless body left lying on a path near Chui Police Post.
Ironical, Chui Police Post was constructed in 2016 but not a single police officer has been deployed to the facility ever since.
At Mahiu’s home, TV47 Reporter Joe Gathuya found a distraught elder brother Stephen Maina, who recounted that their parents died long time ago, and that the deceased was the only person he was sharing his problems with.
“Nina huzuni sana kwa sababu huyu ndugu yangu mdogo ndiyo tulikuwa tunasaidiana na yeye kwa mambo mengi, naomba serikali ijaribu imshike arudi jela,” he said.
Killing spree
After killing the two, residents say the suspect ran after another man who is said to have witnessed the murder. When the man locked himself inside his house, the suspect broke all the window panes trying to reach to him.
He also wanted to murder a neighbouring woman who screamed her heart out calling on locals for help.
But the residents say the jailbird has become a nuisance in the area. Apart from killing the elderly couple and the latest victims, he is said to have injured a woman’s led by cutting her with a panga.
The residents are calling on the police to act swiftly and arrest the man before he kills more people in the village.
