Body of Machakos student found floating on river, hours after dad was told she was in a bodaboda accident

Police in Machakos are investigating an incident where the body of a female student of Machakos Institute of Technology was found floating on River Manza.

The case was reported by Kiandani Sub-Location Assistant Chief John Musembi Kisalu on Sunday, June 9 at around 6:50 pm.

Officers from Machakos Police Station, led by OCS and DCI officers, visited the scene and retrieved the body from the river.

“It had no identification documents and the body was booked as unknown and as a case of drowning. Later the body was identified by deceased Father as of Grace Mueni Mutua aged 20 yrs Student at Machakos Institute of technology second year,” a report reads in part.

The father of the deceased, Reverend John Mutua Kimunyi of PCEA Church Salama, says that on Saturday, June 8 at about 9 pm, hen received a phone call from a caller who introduced herself as the mother of Mary Mutava, also a student at the same institution.

“She Informed him that while her daughter was in company of his daughter on a motorcycle at Machakos near the Red Cross, they were involved in an accident and her daughter found herself at Machakos Level V Hospital and did not know the whereabouts of his daughter,” the report adds.

The report adds: “Then today on 9/6/2024 the Reverend came to Machakos and went where his daughter used to reside in Kathemboni and he found Mary Mutava who was nursing some injuries. Mary Mutava narrated to Reverend what had happened and she didn’t know the whereabout of his daughter after the accident.”
