Transport cabinet Secratry Kipchumba Murkomen announced that leadership of Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) have assured him that blackouts will not be reported at the country’s main airport again.
“I received a status update from the leadership of Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) on the improvements being undertaken at JKIA to ensure it lives up to its billing as an airport of international repute,” stated Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen.
The CS held a meeting with the country’s Aviation Authority attended by Transport PS Mohamed Daghar, KAA acting Managing Director Henry Ogoye, KCAA Managing Director Emile Arao, and Director Air Transport Nicholas Bodo, among others.
He reiterated that the airport has replaced the time-based system with a logic-based system that will allow a seamless transition to backup power during blackouts.
“KAA leadership has assured me that issues of blackouts at JKIA are now a thing of the past after they replaced the time-based system with a logic-based system that will allow a seamless transition to backup power during blackouts.
“Manual interventions have also been put in place, faulty control systems rectified, cabling systems expanded, and inverters installed to avert blackouts at the airport by allowing a 15-second transition time.”
Last week Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua blamed the blackouts happening at the country’s main airport on the Jubilee administration stating that the Uhuru Kenyatta government bought and installed fake generators at the airport.
According to the Deputy President who speaking in Baringo, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen should buy and install new generators, as the ones in place keep on switching on and off because they are fake.
