Musalia Mudavadi’s Prime Cabinet Secretary position is secure following ANC merger with UDA, Kenya Kwanza assures

The Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary (OPCS) has affirmed that Musalia Mudavadi’s Prime Cabinet Secretary position is secure and in tandem with the pre-2022 General Election agreement signed by the Kenya Kwanza coalition affiliate parties.

OPCS on Saturday clarified in a statement that the merger between ANC and UDA has in no terms affected the position Mudavadi holds.

The statement defused emerging sentiments that link Mudavadi’s earlier position as ANC party leader to the new developments within government and the political landscape.

“The merger of the Amani National Congress (ANC) with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has solidified the position of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, ensuring that all terms of the pre-2022 General Election agreement remain valid and binding until 2027,” read part of the Statement.

The statement further indicated that the Kenya Kwanza leaders have reaffirmed the coalition’s unity and commitment to its original mandate, dispelling any speculation about potential shifts in the political landscape following the recent signing of a cooperation agreement between UDA, Kenya Kwanza and the Orange Democratic Movement, ODM.

“Kenya Kwanza remains intact, strong, and fully dedicated to delivering on its promises to the people of Kenya,” the leadership assured.

In the statement by the OPCS press service, the Kenya Kwanza coalition has extended its appreciation to all stakeholders who facilitated the transition, particularly the supporters of the former ANC party. “This milestone would not have been possible without your unwavering trust and commitment,” the statement read.

The OPCS press service said the newly consolidated entity forges ahead, its leadership has emphasized the importance of unity, efficiency, and a shared vision for Kenya’s future.

It noted that the new developments are a sign of a bold and progressive step geared towards strengthening the resolve to serve Kenyans better.

It stated that the leadership has resolved to move forward with renewed purpose and dedication to forge a new future that is accommodative to all Kenyans.

“With the merger now sealed, Kenya Kwanza aims to build on its electoral promises while maintaining internal cohesion and political stability as the country approaches 2027.” the statement read.

A week ago, Mudavadi while speaking in Malava, noted that to build a united, secure and prosperous nation, leaders must work together since the driving factor for a shared common goal remains the vision for the future.

He said he fully supports the signing of a joint framework agreement between Kenya Kwanza and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to resolve the social, economic and political challenges facing Kenya.

The Prime CS has previously been quoted saying that he is among the leaders who have continuously advocated for unity of purpose, irrespective of the political affiliations and support base.

Mudavadi has occasionally revisited his “ANC earthquake” of 23rd of January 2022 saying it is part of the hardest decisions he had to make with his ANC brigade but since then he has been vindicated after launching a calculative and strategic mission to disrupt the order of things in Kenya’s hegemonic electoral politics.

“On Sunday, January 23, 2022, I made the famous speech titled, ‘Tusindangayane’, and I referred to it as an earthquake. I have since been vindicated and we changed Kenya’s politics forever. I give a lot of thought to the decisions I make. I always take a long-term view.” said Mudavadi in Malava last week.

Mimi nikawaambia ndugu zangu kwamba let us now move beyond that coalition formation. Na ndio kwa sababu nikaweka mkataba kwamba ANC ina merge na UDA tuwe chama kimoja. Sasa wakifanya negotiation Nairobi, badala ya sisi kukaa kando kando kama ANC, tunakaa upande wa UDA, tuna negotiate na ODM. Tulikuwa tumeona, na nikapanga watu wetu nikawaambia muingie mapema.” he added.

Under the new UDA formation after the ANC merger, top former ANC officials have been integrated in the new leadership with Lamu Governor Issa Timamy, who was ANC’s party leader, being appointed the new outfit’s deputy party leader, Kelvin Lunani, who was ANC’s national chair is the new party’s vice-chair and Omboko Milemba, the former ANC’s secretary- general, is now the new party’s deputy secretary-general.

Former ANC top official Advocate Ferrah Etyang was this week sworn in as UDA National Elections Board member with youthful officials also being incorporated in the new leadership.

ANC’s Kennedy Omulo Junior is the new director of devolution and county affairs in the new UDA outfit and Nathaniel Mongare was appointed the director for political affairs, resource mobilization and Diaspora affairs.

Former ANC executive director Margaret Ndanyi is the new UDA director of women, voter education & training.

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties has officially gazetted the dissolution of the Amani National Congress (ANC), culminating a decade tenure in the political arena.

According to an official gazette notice dated March 7, 2025, Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu indicated that the party resolved to dissolve voluntarily following its Special National Delegates Congress held on February 7, 2025.
